North Carolina Major Work of K-8 Mathematics

This document identifies the content emphases by cluster for each grade or course as defined by North Carolina. Some clusters require greater emphasis than others based on the depth of the ideas, the time they take to master, and/or their importance to future mathematics or the demands of college and career readiness. An intense focus on the most critical material at each grade allows depth in learning, which is carried out through the Standards for Mathematical Practice. Without such focus, attention to the practices would be difficult and unrealistic, as would best practices such as formative assessment.

K-8 Quick Reference Guide for the North Carolina Standard Course of Study

The Quick Reference Guide for The North Carolina Standard Course of Study is intended to serve as a resource for teachers as they plan instruction to implement the North Carolina Standard Course of Study across multiple disciplines. There are nine Quick Reference Guides available – one for each of the grade levels from kindergarten through 8th grade. The Reference Guides contain the standards and objectives for all of the Common Core State Standards, North Carolina Essential Standards, and North Carolina Extended Content Standards.
